Beyond Bridges: Balkans Costs and Scholarships
TOTAL COST TO PARTICIPATE IN BBB
The total cost is a combination of BBB program costs, tuition, and air travel.
Costs – General
(a) BBB Program Costs - $2,300. (This assumes a minimum of eight enrolled students.)
(b) Academic/Course credits - The cost for undergraduate students is $950/credit and $1,175/credit for graduate students, with a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 4 for both. Even if you would prefer to audit the course (i.e, you don't need or want the credits), you must pay a minimum of 2 credits.
(c) Air Travel - $1,300-$1,800 (as of March 3, 2013).
Costs – Specific
(a) BBB Program Costs - $2,300. This fee should be paid directly to USF. This includes ALL costs including all ground transportation (e.g., pick up/drop off from airport, all trips), two weeks in min. 3-star hotel, three meals/day, all entrance fees, min. of two 24-7 staff members + driver (assuming eight students), and more.
(b) Academic/Course credits - This fee should be paid directly to USF.
(c) Air Travel - $1,300-$1,800 from SFO to Sarajevo Airport r/t. This fee is dependent upon the carrier as well as the number of stops between the US and Sarajevo. Students must coordinate their flights with the BBB Director and arrange to arrive/depart on specific days and times.
We strongly encourage students to purchase flights through CTE’s travel agent. If students do not arrive/depart on the specified days and times, they will be responsible for paying additional ground travel and, potentially, accommodation costs, which are not included in the price of the BBB Program Costs. As we have worked with our travel agency since 2005 we will be able to modify travel plans as opposed to purchases made through Orbitz, Expedia, etc.
We also strongly encourage students to purchase travel insurance to cover the price of the ticket in case the program is canceled (as a result of natural, political or violent event, or illness).
(d) Misc.: Please note that there will be additional fees for those students who need extra assistance in obtaining a visa to Bosnia-Herzegovina (citizens of the U.S. receive a visa upon arrival at Sarajevo International Airport), who arrive to or leave from the airport at a separate time than the BBB-arranged flight, and/or who are interesting in interning with a Balkans-based NGO following the formal component of the course.
We recommend that students look into the following scholarship providers as early as possible [NOTE; some of these scholarships are for people of particular backgrounds—e.g., Californian, Hispanic, Jewish, etc.]:
