Costs and Scholarships
Aside from the scholarship for currently enrolled USF students, all questions should go to Oren Kroll-Zeldin ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Costs - General
As of February 10, 2012 we have finalized the costs to participate in the summer 2012 BBIP program. The total cost is a combination of BBIP program costs, tuition, and air travel.
(a) BBIP Program Costs - $2,900. (This does not include the $1,000 scholarship all currently enrolled USF students are eligible for. In other words, with this scholarship the Program Cost will be $1,900.)
(b) Academic/Course credits - $920/credit with a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 4. (Note that graduate students need to pay $1,130/credit with a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 4.)
(c) Air Travel - $1,900 (through March 15th, 2012). The cost of air travel will fluctuate after this date depending on the cost of the ticket on the particular day of purchase. Airline ticket costs are very sporadic, particularly closer to departure date.
Costs - Specific
(a) BBIP Program Costs - $2,900. This fee should be paid directly to USF. This includes ALL costs including all ground transportation (e.g., pick up/drop off from airport, all trips), three weeks in BBIP 3-star hotel, three meals/day, all entrance fees, four staff members + driver (assuming 16 students), and more.
(b) Academic/Course credits - $920/credit with a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 4. This fee should be paid directly to USF. Even if a student does not want/need credits, all participants need to pay this amount. (Note that graduate students need to pay $1,130/credit with a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 4.)
(c) Air Travel - Approximately $1,900 (after March 15), depending on the particular cost of the flight on the day the ticket is purchased. We also advise student purchase travel insurance at a cost of $150 to enable a refund of the ticket cost in case the security situation in Israel/Palestine changes and we need to shift the program. This fee should be paid directly to the Center for Transformative Education, NOT USF. This cost for air travel, approximately $1,900, includes round-trip airfare from SFO to/from Ben Gurion International Airport, Tel Aviv. If a student needs to fly to the Middle East from an airport other than SFO or prefers to fly into Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan, special arrangements can be made; no doubt there will be different fees for this.
We do not suggest that a student purchases her own flight for a number of reasons including she would need to arrive/depart within a 3-4 window of when the regularly scheduled BBIP flight arrives/departs, though we can arrange ground travel she would have to pay these fees on top of the regular Program Costs, if she arrives early or stays late we can certainly try to arrange to stay at the same BBIP hotel where we'll be staying during the three weeks of the trip but we cannot guarantee this and the student would need to pay these hotel accommodation fees on top of the regular Program Costs. Finally, as we are working with a long-time travel agent we will have professionals to work with us in case a flight time is changed or what have you (as opposed to a standard purchase through Orbitz, Expedia, etc.).
(d) Misc.: Please note that there will be additional fees for those students who need extra assistance in obtaining a visa to Israel (a visa to Palestine is not currently needed to travel in the West Bank), who arrive to'leave from the airport at a separate time than the BBIP-arranged flight, and/or who are interesting in interning with an Israeli or Palestinian NGO following the formal component of the course.
Scholarships
All currently enrolled USF students are eligible for up to $1,000 in scholarships. All such students need to be in touch with Professor Aaron J. Hahn Tapper (

) regarding this opportunity.
As for other scholarship opportunities, we recommend that students look into the following scholarship providers as early as possible [NOTE; many of these scholarships are for people of particular backgrounds—e.g., Californian, Hispanic, Jewish, etc.]:
***Many -- but not all -- of the scholarships on this list are for students who identify as Jewish and/or for study specifically at an Israeli university. This said, there are many other funding options, including fundraising on your own, which has been successful for students in years past.***
